ON DISPLAY – Gave away too big a start behind SURFIN' BIRD last time. Should settle closer from barrier five and can improve.
VON HAUKE – Backmarker who will need things to unfold his way but has claims if the race sets up for swoopers.
PONDALOWIE – Another backmarker with claims, although the expected moderate tempo could make things difficult.
VERDICT
SURFIN' BIRD was dominant second-up and produced a huge rating. Third-up now, she maps to control the race from the front in a moderate tempo. Will be very hard to run down.

JUJA KIBO – Outlasted AETHELWULF in the Metropolitan and brings strong staying form. Wide barrier makes things tricky.
AETHELWULF – Unlucky in a slowly run race last start, was flying before that and has upside.
KIZLYAR – Irish visitor who can settle forward and give a sight. Drawn to enjoy a favourable run.
LONGSHOTS
MR MONACO – Won last start and should help generate a genuine tempo. Can give a sight if allowed to control things up front.
FUTURE HISTORY – Has been racing consistently without winning. Wide draw makes things difficult but has the staying credentials to figure.
VERDICT
KING PEDRO caught the eye running on strongly behind ATTRITION first-up. The rise to 2500m is right up his alley and barrier one gives him an economical run. Lightly raced with plenty of improvement to come.

DANGERS
SIR DELIUS – Two passable runs this preparation and won the Queen Elizabeth Stakes third-up in the autumn. Everything points to him peaking again here.
AELIANA – Her entire campaign looks designed around producing a peak performance in this race. James McDonald takes the ride.
WARWOVEN – Won the Caulfield Guineas after getting the better run than BLIND RAISE. Drawn beautifully in barrier two and carries just 49.5kg.
LONGSHOTS
SAINT GEORGE – Has a liking for Flemington and could improve sharply at the track.
COSMIC CRUSADER – Forgive his Caulfield Cup run. Drops back to 2040m and is capable of bouncing back.
VERDICT
BLIND RAISE was enormous in the Caulfield Guineas after being pressured early and fighting on until the final 100m. The margin didn't reflect the merit of his performance. With just 49.5kg and a likely change of tactics, he represents terrific value at double-figure odds.
