The Melbourne Cup Carnival continues on Thursday with Ladies Day at Flemington hosting the 166th running of the VRC Oaks – a Group 1 staying race for the 3Yo fillies over 2500m.

Raced under Set Weight conditions and with a prize pool of $1 million, the VRC Oaks has propelled winners on to more success in later campaigns. MISS FINLAND (2006) went on to win the Vinery Stud and Memsie Stakes (2007); MOSHEEN (2011) won the Australia Guineas the following year (2012) and JAMEKA (2015) went on to win the Caulfield Cup (2016).

Nic Ashman Tip:
12. INEVITABLE TRUTH $35
They've ridden INEVITABLE TRUTH quietly in her recent assignments but from gate 1 look she can hold a spot possibly behind the lead. When we reviewed her sectionals they were very flat which is the best indicator of a natural stayer. She profiles similar to John Sargent's ATC Oaks winner GUST OF WIND who will be remembered for being the last horse to beat WINX. She beat WINX by out staying her with a rolling tempo and we can see INEVITABLE TRUTH making sure this is a staying test. Ideally she will get off the fence and punch into the race from the 600m. Great 1 x 3 bet.
