Saturday Bets! Sept 28

Still on a Friday night – but not on the eve of Cox Plate Day, the famed Manikato Stakes sets to light up Moonee Valley with several horses still vying for an Everest slot on October 19.

First run as a Group 1 in 1989, the 1200m sprint around the bend and down the short straight has seen greats of the sport first past the post in this famous race – SUNLINE (2000), HAY LIST (2010) and CHAUTAUQUA (2015). The only horse to win the Golden Slipper and Manikato Stakes in the same year – SEPOY (2011).

MANIKATO STAKES – 1200m

·         Last 5 winners have come from Barriers 1 – 5

·         4 of the last 6 winners have used the Moir Stakes in the lead up

·         2 of the last 3 winners have been favourites

·         The last 3 year old to win was LOVING GABY in 2019; the time before that was SEPOY in 2011

·         Craig Williams is looking to win his 3rd Manikato in 6 years on board GROWING EMPIRE

Tip Via The Stats:

3. RECOMMENDATION $12 – Barrier 5; On pace; Always placed at venue; C.Maher has won 2 of the last 5 Manikato Stakes

1. I WISH I WIN $6 – 6 year old gelding; Always placed over the distance

The feature Group 1 race this Saturday in Sydney sees the 22nd running of the Golden Rose over 1400m at Rosehill on an unpredictable and most likely Heavy track.

In a race where favourites have not traditionally faired well, the Golden Rose has seen many horses starting in the second or third line of betting grab the win against their more fancied opponents – EPAULETTE (2012), TRAPEZE ARTIST (2017), THE AUTUMN SUN (2018) and MILITARIZE (2023).

GOLDEN ROSE – 1400m

  • The last 16 winners have been either Numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

  • The last 5 winners have come from Barriers 1 – 6

  • Only 1 favourite has won in the past 7 years

  • Only 1 double digit horse has won in the past 7 years

  • Run To The Rose winners has placed 82% in the past 17 years (winning 6 times)

  • 4 of the last 5 winners of the Golden Rose used the Run To The Rose in the lead up

Tip Via The Stats:

4. LINEBACKER $6 – Number 4; Run To The Rose lead up; Heavy form

8. EMIRATE $14 – Barrier 3; Run To The Rose lead up; Heavy form
