Saturday Bets! Thousand Guineas day 2024

With the Melbourne Cup Carnival done and dusted, attention now turns back to Caulfield this weekend with the running of two G1s in the Rupert Clarke Stakes over 1400m and the Thousand Guineas over a mile.

The pair have been moved to a later time slot in the past year to keep the Spring alive for the punters as well as continue the lucrative rewards on offer with both races delivering $1 million or more in prizemoney.

SIR RUPERT STAKES

1400m – Group 1 – Handicap

From the past 15 winners:

  • 40% have been Favourites

  • 60% have had a SP of $9 or less

  • 67% have won from Barriers 5 – 11

  • 87% have been 5YO or younger

  • 73% have carried 55.5kg or less

  • 73% have worn Saddlecloths 7 – 14

  • The most popular lead up race has been the Memsie Stakes (27%)

  • Craig Williams is looking to become the Leading Jockey in the history of this race with 7 wins on KIMOCHI

Tip Via The Stats:

4. ANOTHER WIL $4 – 2u

·         Non-favourite; SP $9 or less; Barrier 5; 5YO

5. GENTLEMEN ROY $16 – 1u

·         Non favourite; Barrier 9; 55.5kg or less; Used the Memsie as a lead up

Nic Ashman Tip:

4. ANOTHER WIL $4

Gets the map advantage over JIMMYSTAR, who could be four back the rail. Nothing between these two gallopers but Will has options in the run and that should prove to be the difference.

THOUSAND GUINEAS

1600m – Group 1 – 3YO Fillies: Set Weight

From the past 15 winners:

  • 27% have been Favourites

  • 60% have had a SP of $9.50 or less

  • 67% have won from Barriers 4 – 9

  • 80% have worn Saddlecloths 4 – 9

  • The most popular lead up race has been the Tranquil Star Stakes (TG Prelude) (40%) followed by the Furious Stakes (27%)

  • James McDonald and Chris Waller are looking for a hattrick of wins with AELIANA after victories with MADAME POMMERY (2022) and JOLIESTAR (2023)

Tip Via The Stats:

4. ZEITUNG $5 – 2u

·         Non-favourite; SP of $9.50 or less; Barrier 4; Saddlecloth 4; Used the Tranquil Star Stakes and Furious Stakes as a lead up

6. DOMINETTA $13 – 1u

·         Non-favourite; SP of $9.50 or less; Barrier 9; Saddlecloth 6

Nic Ashman Tip:

13. STAGE ‘N’ SCREEN $12

Good win when off the map on debut then no luck last time when three wide no cover against the boys. The winner there CATOGGIO, looks hard to beat in an earlier race and this filly should appreciate a better run in transit and racing against her own sex. Coming out of the same race is 9. SUPERLICIOUS $21 who was strong through the line at her first go at 1400m. Back them both.
